Price Rounding

Studies show that prices that end in ninety-nine cents (.99) outsell those that end in a dollar (.00). Prices that end in a '9' are often associated with discounts or bargains since .99 cents sounds like less than 1.00.

The PRICE ROUNDING SETUP screen is used to set up price rounding to a specified penny, dime. or dollar amount for prices at Point-of-Sale. If the customer has setups enabled on the PRICE PLAN SETUP screen, the pricing is calculated first and then the price is rounded. Contract Pricing is the exception; contract prices are not rounded.

Price Rounding Setup

Enter the applicable values in each row and click the 'ADD' button to move the cursor to the next row. The system automatically enters the next 'FROM $' value based on the last 'TO $' value. Any number of rows can be added.

Setups can be edited as needed, however, setups cannot be deleted.

The system prompts that changes will be saved if the screen is closed without clicking the 'UPD' button after making changes.

FROM $ / TO $
Start and End range columns. The highest 'TO $' value that can be added is '655.35'.

Make sure ranges end in one number and start in the very next number, for example, .00 to 1.99, 2.00 to 9.99, etc.

ROUND
Select the rounding method:

  • 'NEAR' – rounds up or down to the ending amount nearest the price.
  • 'UP' – rounds up to the ending amount nearest the price.
  • 'DOWN' – rounds down to the ending amount nearest the price.

ENTER ENDING AMOUNTS
Enter the amount or amounts that the pricing will be rounded to.

Rounding Setup Examples:

If price rounding is enabled, when a part is added to the sell line at Point-of-Sale, the system first finds the 'FROM $' / 'TO $' range the part falls within and using the 'ROUND' rule, and rounds the part near, up, or down using the 'ENTER ENDING AMOUNTS'.

Point-of-Sale Rounding

Price rounding does not affect the part file price and affects pricing at Point-of-Sale only. When a part is entered for sale, the system calculates the customer sell price using price setups and then rounds the price.

For example, a part with a calculated sell price of $4.80, if price rounding is enabled, using the example below, the sell price will round up to $4.99.
